SEO for hotels and resorts in Nepal
Written by Bikram Sah Reviewed by Pravin Pathak Updated
Most hotels in Nepal rely on Booking.com, Agoda and Expedia, and pay for it on every room. Those sites will always rank for broad terms like 'hotels in Pokhara'. What a hotel's own website can win is the next layer down: the area, the type of stay and the brand name itself.
That last one surprises people. When guests find you on an OTA, many then search your hotel's name on Google to see photos, read reviews or look for a better rate. If your own site and Google listing don't show clearly for your name, the OTA wins that booking too.
Hotel SEO is part local SEO (Google Maps, reviews, photos), part content (pages that answer what guests ask) and part technical work (fast pages, a booking path that works on a phone, correct schema). We do all three, in that order of urgency.
Keyword map: what to rank, and with which page
| Search | What they want | Page that should rank |
|---|---|---|
| [hotel name] Pokhara | Brand / ready to book | Homepage + Google Business Profile |
| hotel in Thamel with parking | Comparing options | Area page / rooms page |
| resort near Kathmandu for weekend | Planning a trip | Packages page |
| Chitwan jungle safari package | Planning, high value | Package page with prices |
| boutique hotel Lakeside Pokhara | Comparing options | Rooms page |
| wedding venue resort Nepal | Event lead | Events / weddings page |
Pages that rank in this industry
Room pages that answer questions
One page per room type with size, beds, view, real photos and what's included. Guests compare these before booking.
Area and getting-here page
Distances to landmarks, airport transfer details and a map. These rank for 'hotel near …' searches.
Packages and events
Weekend, honeymoon, safari, trekking and wedding packages each get their own page with prices or price ranges.
Things to do guides
Useful local guides (best time to visit, day trips) attract planners early and link to your rooms.

SEO questions from hotels
Can SEO beat Booking.com and Agoda?
Not for broad searches like 'hotels in Pokhara', and you shouldn't try. SEO wins searches for your name, your area and specific stays, and makes it easy for guests who found you on an OTA to book direct next time.
How long does hotel SEO take in Nepal?
Google Maps improvements often show within 4–8 weeks. Rankings for area and package searches usually take 3–6 months, depending on competition in Thamel, Lakeside or Sauraha.
Do we need English and other languages?
English first. If many guests come from India, China or Korea, separate pages in those languages can help, but only if you can reply to enquiries in them.
Should we stop using OTAs?
No. OTAs bring guests who'd never find you otherwise. The aim is a healthier mix, with more repeat and direct bookings.
