Your tagged link
Why tag your links?
Visitors from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and email often show up in Google Analytics as 'direct' or lumped together. Tagged links fix that, so you can see which campaign actually brought enquiries and stop paying for the ones that don't.
| Tag | What to put | Example |
|---|---|---|
| utm_source | Where the link is placed | facebook, instagram, whatsapp, newsletter |
| utm_medium | The type of channel | social, paid_social, email, qr |
| utm_campaign | Your campaign or offer name | dashain_offer_2026 |
| utm_content | Which post, ad or button (optional) | reel_1, story_link |
| utm_term | Paid keyword (optional) | website_design_nepal |
Rules that keep reports clean
Use lowercase, underscores instead of spaces, and the same names every time ('facebook', never 'FB' one week and 'Facebook' the next). Never add UTM tags to links between pages on your own website; that resets the visitor's original source. Turn long tagged links into a QR code with our link and QR generator.
Questions about this tool
Where do I see UTM results in GA4?
Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition. Change the dimension to Session source / medium or Session campaign.
Do UTM tags affect SEO?
No, as long as you only use them on links from other places (social, email, ads), not on internal links.
Do I need UTMs for Google Ads?
No. Link Google Ads to GA4 and auto-tagging does it for you. Use UTMs for Meta, TikTok, email and everything else.
Can I shorten the link?
Yes. Short links keep the tags. For printed material, a QR code is easier than a long URL.
