Most Nepali business websites have Google Analytics installed, and almost nobody looks at it. That's partly because GA4 is confusing, and partly because the default setup doesn't track what matters: calls, WhatsApp chats, form submissions and orders.
The short answer
Install GA4 under your own Google account, set up conversions (key events) for calls, WhatsApp clicks, forms and purchases, tag your ad and social links with UTM parameters, and check one simple report each month: which channels bring conversions.
Set it up so you own it
- Create the GA4 property with a business Google account
- Give your developer or agency access as a user, not ownership
- Link it with Google Search Console and Google Ads
- Turn on enhanced measurement (scrolls, outbound clicks, file downloads)
Track the actions that matter
| Action | How to track | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phone call click | Event on tel: links | Calls are often the main enquiry in Nepal |
| WhatsApp click | Event on wa.me links | Chats often replace forms |
| Form submit | Event on thank-you page or submit | Direct lead |
| Purchase | Ecommerce events from your store | Revenue by channel |
| Quote or calculator use | Custom event | Shows serious interest |
Tag your links with UTMs
Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and email traffic often shows up as 'direct' or a confusing mix of sources. Adding UTM tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) to links in your bio, posts and ads fixes that, so you can see exactly which campaign brought each enquiry.
The reports worth checking
- Acquisition → Traffic acquisition: which channels bring visits and conversions
- Engagement → Pages: which pages people actually read
- Key events by source: what each channel is really worth
- Search Console reports (once linked): which searches bring visits
Don't chase vanity numbers
More visitors isn't the goal. A page with 200 visits and 20 enquiries is worth far more than one with 5,000 visits and none. Judge SEO, ads and social media by conversions and cost per enquiry.
