Which engagement rate should you use?
By followers = average interactions per post ÷ followers. Use it to compare pages and to check an influencer before paying them. A big account with a very low rate often has inactive or bought followers.
By reach = total interactions ÷ total reach. Use it for your own posts, because it shows how people who actually saw the post reacted, whatever your follower count.
| Platform | Typical engagement by followers | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook page | 0.5% – 2% | Organic reach is low; video and Reels do best |
| 1% – 4% | Smaller accounts usually score higher | |
| TikTok | 3% – 9% | Higher because the For You feed shows posts beyond followers |

Questions about this tool
What counts as an interaction?
Likes or reactions, comments, shares and saves. Some people add link clicks or profile visits; just be consistent when comparing.
How many posts should I include?
At least 10 recent posts, so one viral or one flop doesn't skew the result.
Why is my Facebook engagement so low?
Facebook shows page posts to a small share of followers. Video, Reels, questions people want to answer and replying to comments quickly all help.
Is a high engagement rate always good?
Usually, but check comments too. Giveaways and 'comment 1' posts inflate numbers without bringing customers.
