'My website isn't showing on Google' is one of the most common messages we get. Usually the site is fine; Google just hasn't been told about it properly, or something on the site is blocking it. Google Search Console is the free tool that fixes both.
The short answer
Add your website to Google Search Console, verify you own it, submit your XML sitemap and use the URL Inspection tool to request indexing for your main pages. A new site usually starts appearing for its own name within a few days to a few weeks.
Step 1: Add your site to Search Console
Go to Google Search Console with a Google account your business controls, not a developer's personal one. Choose 'Domain' property if you can edit your DNS (it covers http, https, www and non-www), or 'URL prefix' if you can't.
Step 2: Verify ownership
For a domain property, Google gives you a TXT record to add in your domain's DNS settings. For .com.np domains this is often managed by your hosting company; ask them if you can't find it. For a URL prefix property, you can upload a file or add a meta tag instead.
Step 3: Submit your sitemap
Most sites have a sitemap at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml or /sitemap_index.xml (WordPress with an SEO plugin). In Search Console, open Sitemaps, paste the address and submit. This tells Google every page you want found.
Step 4: Request indexing for key pages
Paste your homepage and main service pages into the URL Inspection bar and click 'Request indexing'. Don't do this for hundreds of pages; the sitemap handles the rest.
Common reasons a site doesn't show
| Problem | How to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 'Discourage search engines' ticked in WordPress | Settings → Reading | Untick it |
| noindex tag on pages | URL Inspection shows 'Excluded by noindex' | Remove the tag |
| robots.txt blocking the site | Open yoursite.com/robots.txt | Remove 'Disallow: /' |
| Site only renders with JavaScript | URL Inspection → View crawled page | Prerender or server-render |
| Very thin or copied content | Pages indexed but never rank | Write useful, original pages |
| New domain, no links | Few pages indexed | Get listed on Google Business Profile and directories |
Indexed is not the same as ranking
Once Google knows your pages exist, ranking depends on whether they're the best answer for a search. That's where on-page SEO, local SEO and content come in. Search Console's Performance report shows which searches you already appear for, which is the best place to start.
- Check Pages → 'Why pages aren't indexed' once a month
- Watch Core Web Vitals for slow pages
- Use Performance to find pages ranking 8–20 that need a push
- Keep the Search Console account in your business's name
